Why Do Classes At FLEX?
Anyone can benefit from individualised exercises classes! Whether you are pregnant, an elite athlete, exercising for the first time in your life, recovering from injury, or looking to tone your body, Pilates style exercises has something for everyone.
At FLEX, we tailor programs to suit your individual needs and goals.
We offer supervised pilates and exercise classes for those who are fit and looking for a challenging workout, as well as rehabilitation clients who benefit from low impact, safe, graded exercises.
FLEX classes are limited to 6 participants to allow individualised training, exercise modification and technique correction.
You will not only see results but feel them too!
The History of Pilates
The Pilates Method was developed over 70 years ago by Joseph Pilates. His approach to body conditioning was unique in that it emphasised building strong core muscles (deep abdominals, deep spinal muscles, and pelvic floor), to allow the body an intrinsic support that minimises the risk of injury, even while performing challenging movements.
Pilates gained popularity after it was discovered by the international ballet community, who needed strength and body control without bulk.
Since then, Pilates has branched into different styles.
Physiotherapists have taken the traditional Pilates series of exercises, adapted and expanded the repertoire, to suit a wider range of ability levels and injured clients.
APPI is an Australian "brand" of pilates developed by Physiotherapists to suit a range of ability levels, and to fit in with how we as Physiotherapists assess and rehabilitate injuries.
At FLEX we offer are Physiotherapist led, rehabilitative exercises classes with a pilates flavour.
FLEX Physio & Pilates Classes Will Help You:
> Develop stronger abdominals,
lower back & buttock muscles
> Improve your posture & flexibility
> Learn breath awareness
> Release tension
> Master better body control,
become stronger in both
upper & lower body
> Help prevent injury via improved
body awareness, or recover from
an injury
> Relax, rejuvenate and feel better!

Pilates Screenings
All clients require a Pilates Screening
appointment before starting to allow
one of our Physiotherapists to
assess your ability level, strengths,
weaknesses and individual goals so
we can set exercises at the right level
to challenge you safely and target the
areas you want to improve.
The Six Pilates Principles
> Breathing
> Control
> Precision
> Centering
> Flowing movement
> Concentration
As Physiotherapists, we also refer to "Dissociation" which combines the concepts of centering, control and precise, flowing movement.
Dissociation means that you can hold one region stable whilst moving independently at a nearby joint.
Physio research shows us this skill is important in rehabilitation, as well as for preventing injuries.
