Karrie Malan - Physiotherapist & Owner
Karrie is a dynamic physiotherapist with a real passion for helping people move freely, feel better, and understand their own bodies. She values spending time with patients, allowing her to offer personalised attention, thorough assessment and optimal treatment.
After working for 11 years as a physio in private practices, her passion and enthusiasm for her work and helping her clients has only grown, and you can see the buzz she gets out of seeing them improve, and also reviewing more complex patient presentations with her physio colleagues and coming up with a plan together.
Karrie’s special interest areas include neck and shoulder pain, hip and lumbar issues. These areas lend themselves to the art of observing, analysing and retraining movement patterns, where she incorporates her expertise in Clinical Pilates and exercise therapy, which she balances with hands on skills, including dry needling. In the past few years she has particularly enjoying seeing "2nd opinion" clients to find the root cause of persistent issues.
Karrie is a Watson Headache®Certified Practitioner, having completed levels 1, 2 and 3 over the past 2 years. She is excited about the seeing the effectiveness of treating both headaches and migraines using a unique and research based approach - the Watson Headache® Approach.
There can be a large interplay between neck pain, posture, shoulder pain and arm pain. Karrie enjoys the challenge of teasing out these injuries, and addressing each aspect of the problem step by step. Combining thorough shoulder assessment with neurodynamic testing and exercise therapy means she can help track and explain symptoms that extend up into your neck or down into your arm, wrist or hand.
Similarly, hip pain, lower back pain and groin pain can sometimes become a complex picture to assess or treat as a physio. She believes that understanding and explaining to patients how these puzzle pieces fit together empowers them to start changing habits and solving the underlying issues that are causing the pain.
With a keen interest in recreational running herself, Karrie really enjoys analysing and improving running technique and treating running related injuries, and she does most of our Running Screenings at FLEX.
Having worked in sports focused practices, alongside bootcamps, football and netball teams, Karrie enjoys the fast paced, decision driven world of sports physio, returning clients to sport quickly, and allowing them to play at their best.
As an ex dancer herself, and with extra physio training in this area, Karrie treats many dancers. She does our Pre-Pointe Dancing Screenings and understands the specific challenges that dancers face with their injuries.
She's also a bit of a nerd, attending lots of professional development courses, and reading physiotherapy journal articles . . . for fun.
Karrie is currently working part time as she juggles the joys (and challenges) of mothering little Jamie and Amelie. She enjoys being outdoors, running, bushwalking, netball, pilates and keeping fit in her "spare" time. She is so thankful that she has a wonderful team physios, it's such a blessing to have such top notch colleagues, and work so closely, often sharing clients and swapping ideas.
Grace Robertson - Physiotherapist
Grace is a bubbly physio who has worked for the past six years in
private physiotherapy practices helping people return to comfortable movement, by finding and treating not only the symptoms, but also their underlying cause.
Grace has a broad range of musculoskeletal knowledge and skills, and uses her skills in dry needling and pilates to help relieve a wide range of muscular pains, especially around the glutes and pelvis.
Grace has an interest in sacro-iliac issues and pelvic floor, which are common during and after pregnancy, and often uses real time ultrasound to help assess and retrain pelvic floor muscles as part of our "Core and Floor” Appointments.
Grace has also recently been enthused by LJ Lee's thoracic rings and sports pelvis courses, so has lots of weird and wonderful tricks, and together with Karrie, will often describe your issues in terms of victims and drivers. (Just watch her eyes light up when she finds your "driver"!)
Grace has also worked with clients who have vestibular disorders, helping them to overcome dizziness and retrain their balance.
Grace grew up in Fremantle, Western Australia. She is an active person and enjoys swimming, yoga, cycling, gym sessions and more recently, running. In her spare time Grace loves bushwalking, camping and travelling. Grace works part time, enjoying her days off with her cute little daughter Harriet.
Maia Dell - Physiotherapist
Maia has 16 years of experience working as a physiotherapist with a broad range of experience ranging from hand and wrists, to foot and ankle injuries, acute injuries right through to chronic arthritic conditions.
Maia treats many patients for surfing injuries - neck, back and hip pain being common problems in this group of people, and uses Clinical Pilates, a McKenzie approach, and dry needling to aid their recovery.
Maia is a Watson Headache® Level 2 Practitioner, helping clients with headaches, migraines and neck pain.
Maia has worked previously in a hand therapy role, so is experienced in the assessment and treatment of hand, wrist and elbow injuries.
She is also interested in ankle and foot injuries and post operative rehabilitation for these areas. (Having fractured her own thumb and had an achilles repair herself, she has first hand experience of these!)
Maia works with client who have arthritic and rheumatological conditions, including less common types such as Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). Maia has worked closely alongside rheumatologists and orthopaedic consultants, as well as pain specialists in their specialty clinics.
Maia continues to further her skills by regularly attending professional development courses, and when she's not running a pilates class at FLEX, you might find her strolling along the beach with her energetic puppy. Maia is working part time, and enjoying cuddles and fun with her little boy Iggy.

Janetta Welinska - Physiotherapist
Janetta's warm and bubbly persona, and passion for combining hands on physio with exercises to help her clients, means she fits right in at FLEX.
Janetta thinks and treats holistically, and loves encouraging her clients
to improve their overall wellbeing and health, (her background as an
exercise physiologist means she knows what she's talking about.)
Janetta has completed the Watson Headache® Level 3 course,
becoming a fully Certified Watson Headache® Practitioner.
She is enjoying seeing how effective this approach can be for
clients with neck pain, headaches or migraines.
Over the past 7 years, Janetta's experience working with sports teams has ranged from VFL and local football teams, soccer teams, athletics clubs and kayakers.
Janetta completed her Pilates training with APPI, and loves using exercises to help address stiffness, posture and muscle imbalances and rehabilitate injuries. When muscles are being stubbornly tight, her thumbs and dry needling skills also come in handy.
Janetta, who grew up in Germany, moved to Australia 9 years ago. She graduated with distinction from a Bachelor of Exercise Science, before completing her Doctorate of Physiotherapy at University of Melbourne.
Outside of work, Janetta definitely practices what she preaches, keeping fit through hiking, yoga, cycling, gym and pilates. She loves the outdoors, and her passion for exploring Tasmania, and travelling further afield, means she has many travel stories up her sleeve.
Fiona Rowell - Consultant Dietitian
Fiona is a delightfully warm, bubbly and encouraging Dietitian with over 20 years of experience in nutrition and food consulting, empowering her clients to look after their bodies.
The quality of our diet affects our mood, energy levels, growth, body and overall wellbeing, so to feel our best we all need a diet made up of regular tasty meals, containing a wide variety of foods.
As a wife and mother of two high school girls, Fiona understands the everyday pressures on busy families, and is passionate about helping her clients to enjoy meal times, to enjoy and savour food, eat mindfully and look after themselves.
Fiona has been involved in the FLEX Healthy Habits Program for the past 2 years, and is now running this program as individual consults.
Fiona works closely with us at FLEX from her own practice, Nourish Tasmania, 2 Gregory Street), online booking for appointments are available via her website.
As an Accredited Practising Dietitian, Fiona's services can be claimed with Private Health Rebates. Medicare rebates are available when a GP referral exists under an EPC referral, or for clients with Diabetes type 2 with a GP referral.
Cuong Pham - Massage Therapist
Cuong's natural flair for massage means his clients just love him.
If you like a firm massage, Cuong defintely won't dissappoint you! Cuong’s gentle nature, together with his strength ensure his massages are both relaxing and incredibly effective.
His massage style includes Swedish style, long slow strokes, muscle energy techniques and stretches, trigger pointing, and some tricks from his homeland, Vietnam.
Cuong has a Diploma of Remedial Massage and is a Member of the Australian Association of Massage Therapists.
Cuong works Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays.
Myotherapist & Massage Therapist
Trained in remedial, deep tissue, pregnancy and trigger point massage, Catherine gets a great sense of satisfaction from loosening out those tight spots. She also works with Clarence footy club, so is used to offering firm massages with a smile.
Cath has both an Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy as well as a Certificate IV in Massage Therapy, giving her a wide array of tricks and techniques, and allowing her to offer private health rebates to her clients.
Cath works Wednesdays and Fridays.
Stuart Nolan - Physiotherapist
Stu is an easy going, gentle natured, and highly experienced Physiotherapist who joined our team at FLEX after 20 years of experience in musculoskeletal private practice work in NSW.
His obvious passion for helping his clients, and his wealth of experience across both sports and spinal injuries, and post operative rehabilitation make him an asset to our team.
He is seeing most of our knee, ankle and hip patients,
and loves sussing out shoulder issues too.
Stu is a keen multi-sport competitor, and loves helping sports people of all ages and levels of competition to achieve their goals and enjoy their sport. This ranges from running biomechanics and injury rehabilitation to swimming, cycling and paddling.
He has competed in dragon boat racing for Australia, and has a particular interest in shoulder injuries, rehabilitation, and sorting out the tricky paddling related problems. Stu is always keen to help paddlers, kayakers and dragon boat racers not only deal with and recover from an injuries, but also look at technique to prevent this occurring, especially around the shoulders and lower back.
Stu's broad experience shows in his manual therapy skills, holistic approach, and the many tips and tricks he has up his sleeve. We love learning from him and sharing ideas as a team.
Stu has most recently been working in Coffs Harbour, and is enjoying settling into the Tassie lifestyle (and of course his full time work!) with his wife and son.
Anna Heslop - Physiotherapist
Anna has a broad range of experience over the past 10 years as a Physiotherapist. She has worked mainly in sports-focused private practices, and has recently completed her Pilates certification with APPI.
As a long distance runner, recreational triathlete, and yoga lover, she loves helping athletes (and weekend warriors) improve their technique, fix niggly issues before they grow bigger, and of course, rehabilitating sports injuries.
Anna keeps busy as she juggles four gorgeous children alongside work and staying fit. Her experiences during those four pregnancies and as a mother have led her to an interest in injuries that affect women around their childbearing years: sacro-iliac, lumbopelvic pains, lower back pain and pelvic floor issues. Whilst Grace was on maternity leave, Anna was our go to girl for "Core & Floor" Appointments.
Anna loves having long appointments to be thorough, so she can use all her experience to discover the root causes of your issues, as well as treating your symptoms.
Anna is currently on extended leave as she juggles 4 kids and helps with her husband's business. We look forward to having her back on deck in the future.
Bec Hills - Physiotherapist
Bec enjoys looking up and down the chain for the biomechanics that lead to injury, and need retraining for recovery, especially in the lower limb where she enjoys treating hips, knees and ankles, and seeing how control at one affects the others.
She has a holistic focus, and likes balancing the benefit of hands on manual therapy, with pilates and exercise therapy - so as you can imagine, she's perfectly at home here at FLEX!
She has worked previously as a Pilates instructor in Melbourne, as well as a Massage Therapist, so now she puts all these skills to use together with physio knowledge, to help explain to patients what is causing their pain or problem, and how to fix or manage it.
Bec is interested in spinal issues and sports injuries, and developed her knowledge further by starting her Clinical Masters through Curtin University.
Bec has completed the Watson Headache® Level 1 course, and enjoys treating necks as well as the TMJ (jaw) pain that is often associated with them.
Bec's mum, Jo Hills is a ballet teacher, so she has a solid understanding of dance technique and helping dancers recover from injuries. She has spent a year working in a dance focused pilates practice in Melbourne, so is familiar with common neck and back pain, ankle and hypermobility issues, and how pilates can help these.
Bec has recently completed her yoga intructor course (in Bali of course) and is always keen to consider the holistic nature of healthcare, and the whole patient picture when treating.
Bec fills in for us periodically with pilates classes and physio between galavanting around the globe.
These three musketeers are our admin angels, keeping things running smoothly at the front desk, (and also behind the scenes). Organisation galore, and lots of coffee and laughs in between. They are queens of multi-tasking, tea making, settling babies, and finding an extra, emergency appointment slot. They are worth their weight in gold.
Jess Marwood - Physiotherapist
Jess is a warm and bubbly physio has a keen interest in all things musculoskeletal, especially complex and persistent pain.
She loves to treat with a holistic focus on integrating the
biomechanical issues with explaining how pain works, so
her patients feel empowered to understand and help themselves.
Jess is also a qualified Women's Health Physiotherapist, and can
help with all things pelvic floor, with a particular interest in female
sexual pain. She offers core and floor appointments, with the use
of either ultrasound, or an internal pelvic floor assessment.
Pelvic floor issues, weakness or hypertonicity often occur during or
after pregnancy, but also with long term lower back or pelvic pain for both men and women. It is wonderful to offer these services at FLEX, all under the same roof.
Jess has worked with the Queensland NPL soccer and with the PGA golf, and has now discovered she really likes working with athletes of all shapes and sizes.
Jess completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland, and has gained most of her 5 years of experience working in sunny Queensland in private practice.
A country kid who grew up in south west Queensland, Jess loves the outdoors, so getting out into beautiful Tasmania for camping, hiking, and exploring with her hubby and dog keeps her spare time busy! Outside this, she also enjoys Parkrun, futsal, social netball, as well as running with her highly energetic pup.
At FLEX we are excited to have Jess on board, her passion, experience and specialty skills are an asset to our clients, and she's always got a smile on her face and a bounce in her step to brighten your day.
Charlotte Blake - Physiotherapist

Charlotte loves the way pilates makes you feel:
flexible, strong and balanced.
Charlotte spent a few years in a pilates focused practice in Melbourne before moving to Hobart, so she is relishing the opportunity to balance her hospital work (at the Royal Hobart Hospital) with some pilates classes again.
Her warmth and positive energy is definitely evident in her instructing style, as she encourages clients to challenge themselves each class, re-centering, energising and strengthening.
She is an avid cyclist, bushwalker and rockclimber, as well as enjoying yoga in her spare time.
